The French media group Lagardere said that it has signed a contract with US publisher Hearst to sell its international stable of magazines, including fashion magazine Elle, in fifteen new countries. The deal will likely see a Czech fashion magazine version of Elle and other popular titles from Hearst.

Lagardere will continue to own the "Elle" trademark and to receive annual royalty payments based on its sales. It will also be responsible for overseeing the title's "brand consistency" through its management network. Other countries included in the deal are Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Britain, China, Japan, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Mexico, Taiwan, Canada and Germany. Lagardere is best known for Elle, while Hearst owns Cosmopolitan and Good Housekeeping magazines as well as a large US media empire that spans newspaper, TV and magazines.

Think Czech Fashion Magazine

The Czech fashion magazine Think was launched in 1998 with funding from Jay King, with photographers such as David Surowiecki, Hugo Tillmanm, Sioux Nesi and stylists such as Linda Larosa and Angela Aaron, the Czech version was the most avant-garde fashion magazine to ever hit the Czech market, catering to hip young Czech speaking locals. The launch struggled, however, due to some unethical printers and distributors.

Through legal intervention money that had been lost was recouped, but the magazine continued to have difficulties with other distributors who were of a more traditional mindset. For example, there were two who refused to distribute one of the issues due to a men's underwear fashion shoot, on the grounds that they don't see gay magazines. Placement in kiosks was vital yet costly, and had to be negotiated with each kiosk owner. As the media environment continued to evolve, the glossy magazine was eventually stopped and switched over to Czech broadcast concept called Think TV.
