The French media group Lagardere said that it has signed a contract with US publisher Hearst to sell its international stable of magazines, including fashion magazine Elle, in fifteen new countries. The deal will likely see a Czech fashion magazine version of Elle and other popular titles from Hearst.
Lagardere will continue to own the "Elle" trademark and to receive annual royalty payments based on its sales. It will also be responsible for overseeing the title's "brand consistency" through its management network. Other countries included in the deal are Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Britain, China, Japan, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Mexico, Taiwan, Canada and Germany. Lagardere is best known for Elle, while Hearst owns Cosmopolitan and Good Housekeeping magazines as well as a large US media empire that spans newspaper, TV and magazines.
